That booth is insane! I think Joe would need a golf cart to get around in it. [Smile]

I don't see why you couldn't just bring up your car. I wouldn't recommend playing football though, as the concrete turf would enable many bones to be broken!

Looks like a good place for Ian to drive his "smart car." Or at least a golf cart or something.

Alternatively, they could install Astroturf and stadium lighting.

Seriously, though, that's the biggest booth I've ever seen. Most gigaplexes seem to have boring long hallways or U-shaped booths, which are still huge by comparison to most older booths.

Please tell us the "paint" story is not true! [Eek!]

Who would ever put white paint on film cleaning media? [Roll Eyes]

That was no joke John. The bottle was almost identically sized and the fellow just grabbed it (apparently without using his brain). I seem to recall they let that guy go.

Where was the film cleaner mounted? Wouldn't the operator have seen the gobs on the screen and known something was wrong?

I hope nothing happened to the projector. Seems like that would be a huge mess to clean up.

Just think of the low-income housing that could be carved out of the extra room in that booth. If low-income housing were part of the benifit package that AMC offered their projectionist, then maybe one could survive nicely on an $8.50 per hour job.

Brad: Maybe he thought it was "WhiteWASH" for cleaning film. [Big Grin]

With the mess of putting paint on the media, and then pulling the film through it for threading, how could anyone NOT notice the mistake? [Eek!]

Dare I ask why white paint was stored in a bottle similar to FilmGuard bottles? Or why white paint was even on the rewind bench? (Am I correct in suspecting that it was used to mark splices?) [Confused]

I have no idea what it was doing there, but I'll bet your assumption was correct.

Bear in mind these pictures were taken right near the theater's opening...when they had fresh staff who were not experienced operators. Such a person might not know that film cleaner is not supposed to look like paint.

Considering how many theater screens AMC is able to pack into some small places (the Odyssey 30 at Grapevine Mills near Dallas and the AMC 24 plex in Tulsa are good examples), I'm surprised they didn't fit another 12 screens into that big booth area.

Given this is one of the newest AMC builds, are they still sticking all the surround speakers up in the ceiling?

Hehehehehehehe......after all these years they still don't know how to build a theatre, do they???? The lobby and corridors have the feeling of the United Airlines terminal at Chicago O'Hare Airport!
So are you guys going to film "Interlockling 24" at this place......

Digital cinema is suppose to get rid of the second floor [Wink] A client I have would have a heart attack if he saw that much doctor, lawyer, regional office space wasted...he would have partition that off and would run stairs and an elevator pronto [thumbsup]

I opened that theater and in less than a month I left and went back to Cinemark legacy 24. $8.50 yeh right pay was like $6.50 and that the highest pay and that was because I had already had 2 years experience running a 24 screen booth. They had me come in an hour early to tread up all the projectors and then start and run them two rounds before I had a second person came in to help me. I not surprised about the white paint on the media cleaner when I left there was 3 people working the booth and they barly knew how to thread the projector and the booth manager didn't even know how to thread a projector at all. After that I have never watched a movie at AMC since this is a common occurrence in all the there booths.

And, just think... AMC gets prints made-up and projected on every one of those screens for about 60¢ an hour each!

[edit] Oops, sorry, Bill. I see we were writing at the same time, ironically, about the same subject!

But AMC always offers its customers a "picture-perfect presentation!" Their theatres are "comfortable, distraction-free, and picture-perfect." It says so in all their memos, so it must be true.
