More than nine billion people were killed
in the 25 most-watched movies in North America,
but studios are blocking a documentary about it

Christopher Reed Special to The Globe and Mail

Globe and Mail Article: Searching for a Hollywood Ending

A bit biased, since the study includes Star Wars, where the Death Star destroys Alderaan, killing 6 billion. [Roll Eyes]

Who gets killed in E.T.?
I think there is too much violence in movies, but this study is laughable at best.
Actually, most of the listed movies contain less explicit killings than many other action movies.
Livingston calculates 6 billion people lived on Alderaan. What about all the people on the Death Star? It is so unfair to leave the Imperial military personnel unmentioned. True, they served the evil Empire, but I guess most of them were drafted against their will... [Wink]

Who cares? Why was time and money wasted on this information? What is expected to happen as a result? Nothing will change simply because of this. I understand that the point is "too much violence". But that doesn't need a "study" to be said. Now that I know the number is approximately 9 billion, what am I to do? I think I'll enjoy movies just as I always have.

Joe, Tonight you will dream in technicolor of a Chuck Norris movie. Don't try to fight it. Do not worry Brad will have the same dream...maybe Ian too. Please post your reviews. [Wink]

Good Guys Wear Black was awsome! [Razz]

I read a lot of pulp fiction and in every book people die.

I like to watch A&E with Poirot and Nero Wolf and in every one of them people are mudered in most horrific ways.

The Horror, the horror! [Roll Eyes] Obviously I am a sick and twisted member of society and not to be trusted with your children or sisters. [evil]

The shock that's presented pretty much falls flat when you stop to think that theatrical entertainment preceded movies.

He should start counting up the frequency of performance & mortality in say, 1820 - 1920 theatricals just in the US, if he's concentrating on US films. Mostly Shakespeare, mostly tragedies & histories.

If he counts just mentions, the total is enormous - whole armies & male populations of entire countries.
