Congratulations to all who had a hand in the design and specifications of this beautiful theatre. It not only has "Film Done Right" it embodies "Theatre Done Right" as well.

I will look forward to visiting this theatre on my next trip to LA.

Although I didn't get to see inside the Kodak Theatre on my trip to LA last May, I can say with no hesitation that it is the centerpiece of that Hollywood & Highland destination. The area has been truly tranformed into something LA can be very proud of. Kodak is to be commended for helping to make it happen. [thumbsup] If you ever get a chance to go there, it's worth the trip: Besides the Kodak Theatre, there's the El Capitan and Chinese right there, and Cinerama Dome/Arclight is not too far away. Lots to see for someone interested in theatres with some history to them. Hollywood Bowl is nearby too.

Congratulations!

Does the Kodak Theatre have film (or [Eek!] DLP) projection capability for screenings, special events, etc?

Although a permanent projection facility was in the original concept, the Kodak Theatre at Hollywood and Highland is primarily a venue for live events. So the space for the original projection room is now a press center space for photographers photographing the events. Digital or film projection is brought in as needed, however.

The 2000-seat Kodak Park "Theater on the Ridge" in Rochester has very similar inside dimensions and throw, and we modified it to evaluate different concepts for the Hollywood theatre,as part of the "Enhanced Theatrical Experience" development program, including installation of a Harkness Hall 63-foot matte white screen that could be flown during live shows. The huge Rochester theatre is now used as a "real world" lab for Kodak's Digital Cinema System:

http://www.kodak.com/US/en/motion/digital/system.shtml

Kodak's Enhanced Theatrical Experience (ETE) program also resulted in development of a new retrofittable intermittent design that allows greater light efficiency with a redesigned starwheel and cam, and a new more efficient xenon lamphouse design. See the paper "Design Improvements for Motion-Picture Film Projectors" in the November 2001 SMPTE Journal, Volume 110, pages 785-791.

If you are a Kodak shareowner, the 2003 Annual Meeting of Shareholders will be May 7, 2003 at the Kodak Theatre in Hollywood, California. Good chance to see the theatre. [Smile]

The Kodak Theatre only won "theatre of the year" because it has been around for more than a year under its current name and ownership. But if that weren't the case, then "theatre of the year" would have been the large giant screen at Madstone Tamarac Square in Denver. Anyone who has seen the large giant screen in person can attest that it is the best that can possibly be achieved by any venue (Brad? Nate?).

A little history about Madstone and its large giant screen auditorium. Back in 1755 Samuel Madstone dreamed up showing movies in the best possible venue that movies could be shown in. He dreamed that Simplex projectors and ORC platters, lamphouses and automations would run the shows. But the problem was that movies had not yet been invented. But his passion did not die. It was passed on to his son Ted Madstone who kept the dream alive. After helping invent entertainment Ted drew plans for the large giant screen auditorium and kept them safe under lock and key. Many many years later Ted was murdered by Robert H. Landmark, his rival. But Ted had a son... Chip Madstone! Chip quickly kidnapped Thomas Edison and made him invent the basics for what would eventually lead to movies. Chip perfected the technology and created Madstone Theaters, and the world was amazed. Then, in 2002 Madstone acquired Mann's old Tamarac Square theater. It was hella awesome but Madstone made it better. They had the large giant screen auditorium and the world again rejoiced. You cannot top the Madstone Tamarac large giant screen!
