New and Exciting Film Technologies

DATE:
Monday, 31 March 2003
NOTE DATE!!!!

LOCATION:
Alliance Française
55 East 59th Street (Madison-Park)
Enter @ Florence Gould Hall Boxoffice
SUBWAY: 4/5/6/F/N/R/W to 59th Street

TIME:
5:00 PM Refreshments and social hour
Sponsored by Fujifilm and Kodak
6:00 PM Technical presentation

~ PROGRAM ~

Presenters:

Fuji Reala 500D:
Mac Jibiki, Fujifilm

Fuji Reala 500D has been developed utilizing " fourth color technology"
to further expand the choice of locations for film shooting.

Kodak 5218 500T Color Negative Film:
David Long, Eastman Kodak

With the design of Vision2 500T Color Negative Film, Kodak has
introduced film technology optimized for both the traditional optical
and digital
post-production worlds.

While resolution and grain improvements comprise a big part of the
advancements offered by this new technology, film sensitometry and color
reproduction have
also been carefully engineered to facilitate improvements in neutral
scale control and digital post-production productivity. And all of this
is made possible by
silver halide technologies that significantly reduce grain and
film-building technologies that shape a new standard of photographic
performance in a world of
hybrid applications.

TEST MATERIALS:
Ed Schuller, NY Section SMPTE Test Material Advisor

But wait, there's more!!! Ed Schuller, our acclaimed Test Materials
Advisor, will be displaying 3 standard leaders and will explain the
difference between them.
Says Ed, "I will announce the new 35mm Theatrical Projection Leader,
recently issued by the SMPTE Headquarters Test Materials Department. I
will also show
the original Academy leader and the SMPTE 35mm Universal Leader. I plan
to briefly talk about the origins of the Academy leader, the reason for
developing the
SMPTE Universal Leader and the reason for developing the new Theatrical
Leader."

Mac Jibiki and I spoke at the same session at the ITEA Projection Seminar in Los Angeles on January 15. We respect each other as professionals and competitors.

In 1991, Fuji helped host the ISO/TC36 motion picture standards plenary in Japan. The USA, including Kodak, hosted ISO/TC36 in Los Angeles in 1994. In 1997, Agfa graciously hosted ISO/TC36 at their factory in Mortsel Belgium. In 2000, Kodak hosted ISO/TC36 at our plant in Chalon-sur-Saone France. Developing industry standards is a cooperative venture, and competitors can be friends and work together for the good of the motion-picture industry.

Good start--
I'd be happy to meet other Film-techers there, and treat to a Guinness or a Maartini.

The meeting is open to the public, so one needn't be a member to attend.

Anyone else planning to go?

I've got a United pass that's good for one free round-trip anywhere in the US. Never been to NYC before. Maybe I should use it before they go TU...

Paul,
When you come to NYC let's have some sushi or teriyaki and some
Kirin or saki to celebrate.

Yes Phil, I love sushi, but so does my daughter, and when my wife bought several trays full, my daughter ate 58 pieces in a day and a half, not leaving me one!

But most all the packaged Sushi we get in Korean groceries and specialty shops is the California type, inside-out, with the nori inside and sticky rice with a sprinkling of sesame seeds outside. The artificial crabmeat is pre-cooked so it lasts a day or two, but for real sushi you have to go to one of the many fine Japanese restaurants in New York, like Nobu, or the many
more affordable ones. [Paul Mayer's a real crabmeat maven [Smile] ]

I used to make my own when I returned from Japan. Never forgot
my mother's reaction when I brought home a huge yellow daikon that really "perfumed" the house. [Big Grin]
