Funny, since Michael Moore supposedly has a restraining order barring him from all Disney properties.

Full Story

(I don't know where to put this topic. I decided to put it in yak for now. However the conversation could easily turn political fast.)

Well, Disney himself was a notorious anti-semite, so if - as I suspect is highly likely - part of Moore's agenda is to examine the links between the Bush administration and right-wing extremists in Israel, I'm sure Uncle Walt would have approved.

The real reason is probably far more mundane, though. The next Moore rant stands to make a lot of money, especially after the publicity and controversy surrounding Columbine. Whatever your politics, investing in it represents a sound business decision. It might not represent a sound personal safety decision if all the Islamic loons, Jewish extremists and other groups which Moore will doubtless piss off start coming after you, but presumably Disney are willing to take that risk.

Miramax will finance Fahrenheit 911.

The Disney-owned minimajor picked up the project out of turnaround from Icon Productions. Why? Icon is based at Fox, a part of the News Corp. (Murdoch) empire. News Corp. also owns HarperCollins (which tried to suppress Moore's most recent book "Stupid White Men") and Fox News Channel (under investigation in England for airing slanted/distorted stories).

FWIW Miramax has a history of doing well with pictures other studios put into turnaround.

Let's see, Miramax takes on a project that one of their biggest critics in the past approves of, and all of a sudden he has good things to say about them! [Wink] [Big Grin]

It's funny that Miramax is picking up this project. Because Miramax pasted on the "Columbine" film. So UA picked it up.
