This was proved last week when our theatre was rented by a young man to propose. He and his lady are great movie fans, haveing more that 1000 DVDs and VHS between them. Given this, he thought what better place to pop the question than an old movie palace. He is a paralegal at a major firm. With permission he had us print "Employee Appreciation Day" tickets and we sent them along with a fake guest of an employee invitation to her. When they arrived they were greeted by the theatre manager and were told that they were 15 minutes early and that they were the first. They took seats and in a few minutes he got her to the front to look at the organ console. After some small talk he proposed on one knee. She accepted and then they watched her favorite movie, "Shakespeare In Love" in privacy.
Both arw 23.
The newspaper did an article on them a few days later.
The bill for the event, including film rental and shipping which was by far the largest item, just under $600.

We've had this done in our theater a few times before. One guy made a DVD slide show of their life together for his future wife, and they watched It's a Wonderful Life after she accepted. We've also hosted a few weddings too!

I've been asked to make trailers for guys wanting to propose to their girlfriends from the screen! Wish I'd thought of it!

Whew! That's worth it!

It costs me much more than $600 to have people over for a party. I should look in to renting a theatre and have them show my prints! [Big Grin]

Tim: That's a great oppertunity to make some bucks!

Maybe a little OT since it was a live show, but a few years ago Jackie Dankworth (Cleo Laine's daughter) and her band performed at our theatre. The flautist proposed to his girlfriend the morning they arrived, she accepted, they got their blood tests, we went to the notary that afternoon and got the license, they did the show, and the two were married onstage after the performance. Our piano tuner's husband was a minister and performed the ceremony.

We've had 3 weddings in the past 10 years. The first 2 have done OK. The last one was 4 years ago and was a little odd to start. It took place at 7:30 on a Saturday morning. The attire for the men was the brightly colored tuxedos from the 70s and the women were all in lime green. The officiant was a magistrate. The bride and groom were bickering when they first arrived and by the time it was over and they left it was a major screaming and yelling match. It turns out the bride was having an affair with somebody other than the groom. The marriage was annulled a few weeks later. Idiots!

Will their lawyers also negotiate the divorce in a movie theater?

Michael, you're such a parade rainer.

I always figured it'd be cool to get married in a movie theatre. ::sigh::

The question would then be WHICH one?

My wife and I contemplated getting married in the theater we had worked at together, but our summer wedding date made it impossible to not run shows for an evening.

There's still nothing better for a relationship than having your own theater. It's an instant date whenever you want it, whether you're trying to impress or just married and trying to relax.

My wife and I were married October 11, 2002 in the family theatre. It was cheaper, more fun, and made me feel more comfortable than if we were married somewhere that I wasn't used to. Seeing that I have spent 99% of the nights since I was 13 working at the theatre. Also, it was kind of nice to have control over how things went like the cueing of the music and the dimming of the lights. We really enjoyed the day. Here is a pic of the wedding, cant find anything better that is on the computer right now and dont feel like hooking up the scanner. We were cutting the cake in front of the west fireplace.

The Dome cinema in Worthing which is grade II listed has a wedding licence if anybody in the UK wants to get married. We've had a few weddings but nobody has asked for a film as well. In screen 2 upstairs we can run video and DVD on the screen.
