Which firewalls do you use? I am using Sygate Personal Firewall and so far it seems to be pretty damned good.

An application appeared on my computer this morning called "Dameware" and it seemed to be a remote connection utility. I trashed that quickly and installed Sygate. Sygate is telling me the IP the access was being attempted from. Well since the app is in the trash it should be a problem any more, and nothing on my Windows PC is allowed to access the net unless I give it permission first. "NetBEUI" seems to try to connect to the net a lot, but I don't allow it. Doesn't seem to have any effect on my internet surfing habits. What is NetBEUI, anyway?

NETbios Extended User Interface.
Hope that helps...

That is just the Microsoft network software. It tries to briadcast various things that tell your LAN systems what's in the "network neighborhood" etc., I think NetBEUI traffic should all be to only LAN IP#s so it wouldn't be trying to get at the net...

Well that would explain why I can't access the PC from my Mac, but I can access my Mac from my PC.

FWIW McAfee, Virus scan Professional (ALL the bells and whistles). Does a damn good job in my opinion. It even has a visual backtrace so that you can trace the offender.

NetBEUI can't be routed, stays on the local network. It is kind of chatty though.
