Warner Brothers has made it official by announcing that actor Christian Bale (american psycho, reign of fire) will play Batman in the new feature.

The feature is being directed by Christofer Nolan (Following, Memento, Insomnia).

This feature will take batman back to basics and back to his origins. It will once again treat it more seriously like the first Tim Burton Batman had done.

No word on who or what villain will be the primary focus.

This news is very comforting. I did not like any of the BATMAN movies so far. My niece really likes the one with Uma Thurman and it's okay I suppose but I'd never choose to watch it on my own. I was really excited about some aspects of the one that has Penguin in it; there was a wonderful sadness to his character's backstory. But all of these movies have just been too ugly and dark. A visual assault -- and I don't mean that in a good way, either.

Christian Bale was the little boy in Spielberg's EMPIRE OF THE SUN and he evolved into a very handsome man with a gorgeous physique (he was kind enough to go nude in AMERICAN PSYCHO). So I suppose I will give this new BATMAN a whirl.
