Well doesn't that just suck. New Line needs to extend the quantity of prints for this so customers have more than one option. Here in Dallas/Fort Worth we can go to the Legacy or watch the DVD. That is ridiculous because the Legacy is far north of Dallas. Look at all the people east, south, and west of Dallas that will have a long drive ahead of them, plus the people in Arlington (west of Dallas) and the people in Fort Worth (even farther west of Dallas)! There must've been some kind of political deal going on behind the scenes.

While the Legacy is indeed a very nice theater and it isn't too far away from me (an hour's drive), the sound there dictates I will have to screen these versions on DVD. [Frown]

Anyone else in a similar predicament in your area?

Well, the Pacific in Bakersfield seems to have a problem lpaying back films in digital (my experience is maybe half of their auditoriums are running digital at any given time, even though they are all equipped to do so). The thick dirt film buid-up on the projection windows adds a very washed-out, difused image projected on the scren. And the constantly waving lamp is an added distraction, going dim to semi-bright every few second (like its fighting staying lit). So I think I'll also stay home and watch the DVD.

Will these be actual film prints? From your post it sounds like they are just projecting the DVD:

From what I understand these will be the same version of the movie that is on the extended DVDs but it will be shown on FILM not projected in digital.

The Palace 12 in Tulsa may be an all-THX site, but I was fairly unimpressed by the audio quality the times I have visited it. I'm kind of surprised the Cinemark theater in Tulsa (the one with the IMAX-3D theater) didn't get the show. For Oklahoma City, it would figure the AMC 24-plex on the north side would get the shows. I'm pretty sure that theater gets more traffic than any other in OKC. But their sound is still fairly sub-par as far as digital sound goes.

I'm still holding out hope for "Return of the King" being able to fit its audio on 2 DTS CD-ROMs. Either that or New Line programming in an intermission (to mercifully spare my bladder).

Great, only a 650 mile drive for me to the closest place. Way to cover the whole country, dudes.

Surprises in my area:

Loews New Brunswick -- the closest to me on that list, but it's gone uber-mainstream and its presentation has gone to [bs]

Loews E-Walk -- central location (Times Square) but not as good, in presentation or comfort, as the UA Union Square.

UA King of Prussia -- major highway construction currently in that area. Why not the UA Riverview (in Philadelphia proper) or the Regal Warrington Crossing?

The Century 14 WOULD have been a good place to see this IF they would convert their large dome theatres back to the way they were originally- 25 years ago both were chopped in half, which is why I won't go to that theatre at all now. If they brought back the BIG screens that used to be there, I'd go see this at least once (I've promised before to go to EVERY movie they show in the big theatres if they bring them back!)
Added: I see it'll be at the Seattle Cinerama, if I were a fan of these movies I'd fly up there to see 'em. If every theatre were like that it would be an almost-perfect world [Smile]
BTW I don't suppose this'll be released in 70mm?

I think they need to update their data base. This theater has been an 18 screen complex for about four years now.

Local theatre is Lennox 24, an AMC. It is within sight of Ohio State, which will give it a HUGE audience. Could probably just about fill up the place for that.

OSU will be closed then, but the students that stay around will flock there. I was going to try and go, but I'll just wait.

Well it's gonna have to be Fort Wayne, Indianapolis or Chicago for me. Is anyone familiar with the AMC River East 21, the Fort Wayne Rave Motion Picture Jefferson Point 18, or Kerasotes Showplace 16 in Indy? If I have to go the distance, I want to get the best presentation possible. Thanks!

Only two single-screen theatres? Why did they have to book this in so many multiplexes?

Mission Valley AMC20 has unforgivably bad sound. Why would they put it there? Ther biggest room only holds 200! Pacific Gaslamp 14 (really a 13, but pacific keeps pulling that 14th theatre out of there @$$) has a THX theatre that seats 650!
