Göteborg Film Festival (in English)
It´s about time for this years Gothenburg film festival (the main cinema event in Sweden). My cinema (at the Student Union at Chalmers) is being used (and I might help out) and my other cinema ( Hagabion ) is showing films as well.
I´ll get some pictures, both of the "usual" cinemas, and the extra installed cinemas (in play theatres and such) to post here, and if anyone is in the neighbourhood feel free to drop by. I´m still doing the Student Union cinema (and am highly involved) but other than that I do sort of apprenticeship at Hagabion, in order to get licensed and to see other machines, installation, and just to show more films in general (trying both Victoria 5, Ernemann VIIIB as well as my usual Ernemann 15...). And I´ll try to get an English version both my own homepage and Hagabion, which should have one being part of Europa-Cinemas.

Isn't Victor Sjöström from Sweden? Will he be there?

Not unless either someone does some serious digging or conducts a seance. He died in 1960.

Correct me if I'm wrong, but I think Ingmar Bergman is still alive, though.

Correct, Victor Sjöström is swedish but is sadly departed. I don´t think any of his films are showing either, unfortunately.
Ingmar Bergman is alive and well, or at least as well as he can be. He recently directed a televised play (Saraband) which he vowed would be the last thing he directed, and it´s been a while since he directed movies. I hear that he still wathces every swedish movie to come out in his own private cinema, but we´ll see if he can really retire.
The festival this year features a tribute to director Lars Molin who passed away last year, a tribute to Kalatozov, who would have turned 100 this year, and who made Soviet propaganda during the Stalin era, and blues films, on the intiative of Martin Sorcese 7 directors made movies involving the blues music. Even more they show movies "Made in Argentina", "Iranian Images" (with part of the profit going to the earthquake victims) and "Little Italy"
I´ll definetly see the blues films and at least one Kalatozov, (and an unknown documentary from Norway named "Gunnar goes comfortable") and it´s even better this year since people who have free time during the day (retired, student or unemployed) get in for half price during weekdays, daytime. Yay, discount!
