I have received an email that is made to look like it came from ebay, saying that their records need to be updated, and directing me to a web site that asks for personal information. I thought it was odd that "ebay" was not part of the web address, so I sent the email to ebay. They replied that it is not their email, or web site, and not to leave any information there.

I am posting this, just incase anyone else has received this same email. DO NOT GIVE OUT YOUR PERSONAL INFORMATION.

I get this kind of crap so freakin' often that, in addition to the Bayesian spam filter that Eudora uses, I have a filter set up that gives any e-mail that contains the word Ebay an automatic spam score of 100 if the sender isn't in my address book.

Bruce: have you checked to make sure that this website didn't leave any cookies or spyware or crap like that (even if you didn't explicitly give it any personal details)?

No I didn't check. How do I check for cookies, or spy programs? Thanks in advance for the info.

Take a look at this thread we had going a while ago:

AdAware, SpyBot S&D, HijackThis, and CWShredder all seem to good tools to use for this sort of thing.

Add Microsoft & get rid of all those virus-laden fake Microsoft "upgrade" & "security" e-mails.

I've got little to no worries about viruses.

However, adding the word, "Microsoft", to my blacklist would be a good idea just on principle! [Big Grin]
