Kevin Smith once vowed he would never direct a superhero movie, but it turns out he will. Smith will write and direct The Green Hornet. The script is expected to be completed by this summer. George Clooney and Jet Li were originally set to star in the film back when it was at Universal. It is unknown who will star now that Miramax has the project.

According to what I have read, Smith was asked if he had an angle for the film. He did a few pages of an outline and then got cold feet. The budget is more than 2x what his largest film to date is, he has never done action, etc. Anyway Miramax asked for what he had so far and Harvey W. would not let Smith back out because the outline was that good. Also a comment was made about allowing himself to grow as a director.

Anyway there are articles about it at both Smith's web site and his news website, viewaskew.com and newsaskew.com respectively.

Yes it is a comic movie, but the source material is resonably out of the public consciousness. I mena, I know that he wore a fedora, drove a cool car, and Bruce Lee was Kato. Other than that my only memory of him was his cameo on the old Batman show. so for most movie fans it will be virgin material.

The question is what will Green Hornet do for theme music now that Kill Bill has associated that theme with that fun sequence involving the scenes building up to the House Of Blue Leaves showdown.
