Start - Run - winipcfg in Windows 98SE will do what it is supposed to. However, there must be a different command line used in Windows 2000 Professional. Does anyone know what it is? Apparently, my machine at work shared the same address as another Windows computer does on the network. As a result, mine blows off the Windows 98 machine in another office.

Thanks in advance.

ipconfig

Or, for more information, use "ipconfig /all"

Check the hostname, too. Even if the IP addresses are different, Win32 machines become unhappy if the hostnames aren't unique.

Host names usually only become an issue if you're using the same workgroup name or have the machines registering in DNS. If they have the same name they will overwrite each other's DNS entries, among other unfriendly things.

Thank you, Scott and Daryl. I did run the ipconfig command, but a dos window flashed by so quick I could not see waht it was trying to tell me.

So, I renamed theis computer in a separate work group. That seemed to work, and it no longer blows off the other computer in the other office.

To keep it from speeding by at lightning speed, Start > Run > "cmd" (or "command" in Win98) will open a DOS window. There, you can type your DOS command and see the results.
