I just noticed my IE address bar now displays a little "F-T" icon rather than the generic Microsoft one. Did this just happen, or have I been oblivious?

Mine used to have the FT, and it was also on my favorites. But it is gone from both now.

It's called a "favicon" and I put it there at least 4 months ago, if not more. I made it a bit big, and I may make a new one that is the exact Favicon size (teeny tiny). I have noticed that on the Avant browser it will come and go. But Avant is a skin for IE, so I don't know if that is an IE problem or not. It should always show up in the address bar, but getting it on your bookmarks (or favorites) drop down menu is tricky at best. Only Avant even tries to do that, and no Mac browser has that capability yet (that I know of).

Joe, "Safari" supports favicons. The F-T favicon doesn't really work all the time on it.

I look at FT on 3 different computers -- one using IE6, and the other two are still on IE5 because I'm too tired to download the update. The FT logo only works on one of the IE5 machines. Don't know why, but don't care either. As long as I can read the latest posts from KD, I'm satisfied. [Big Grin]

Joe, is your favicon compiled with the 16x16 and the 32x32 icon? I know that IE has had a bug for many years wherein a favicon won't showup unless it's already been added to your favorites (bookmarks).

I am using IE 6 and it doesn't show up.

Tried by adding to favorites and that didn't do it either.

I put in my favorite (IE6) and it showed up when I returned to the site. I removed the link from favorites and it stayed.

"Favicon" support in Mozilla Firefox 0.8 for Mac OS X, which I use most often, is intermittent and inconsistent. A few icons for sites in my Personal Toolbar stay put, like the "F-T", for example. Some icons will show up in the URL field and tabs, but don't show up in Personal Toolbar links.

The strangest behavior I've found is with eBay's icon...I have a list of searches at my disposal in the Sidebar; sometimes the icon "sticks" to a particular search link, sometimes the icon doesn't, but frequently the icon will appear after a link is clicked, then disappear when the browser is relaunched. Strange.

Favicons come and go with IE. I don't know why, but Joe needs to get Microsoft to fix that.
