Rick James did suffer a serious stroke in 1998. Rick James, the self-proclaimed "king of punk funk" whose brash, boisterous, self-destructive life epitomized the title of his greatest hit, "Super Freak," died Aug. 6 at his home near Universal City, Calif. According to Sgt. Catherine Plows, a Los Angeles Police Department spokeswoman, the 56-year-old Grammy Award-winning entertainer died of "a preexisting medical condition." Capt. That would fall in line with typical damage to the cardiac muscle due to cocaine use. It's no mystery that after years of drug abuse pop stars like Rick James, Elvis, O.V. Wright, Dee Dee Ramone, etc. clock out before the standard MTBF, but the cosmic question is: what the hell is Jerry Lee Lewis made of? Pig iron & polyester?  |  IP: Logged
