From http://www.imdb.com/title/tt0111161/trivia

With the moive The Shawshank Redemption (1994).

Im all aginsist cruelty to animals but a maggot is going a little over board in my opinion.
Like to hear yours opions on this.

quote:
The American Society for the Prevention of Cruelty to Animals monitored the filming of scenes involving Brooks' crow. During the scene where he fed it a maggot, the ASPCA objected on the grounds that it was cruel to the maggot, and required that they use a maggot that had died from natural causes. One was found, and the scene was filmed.

They should have used an animal rights activist who had died from unnatural causes.

Edited several hours later to add this afterthought: How the hell did they know that the maggot had succumbed to natural causes anyway? Did they do a post-mortem on the critter? If I was the cow, I don't think I'd have wanted to eat it after that, which would make the cow an animal cruelty victim too.

Was the crow hungry? Just because the crow has an acting career doesnt mean that he needs to become a vegan. I have never been on a movie set but I hear that they have food on set to eat, do they get mad about that?
