Since we have a thread for the overrated, it's only right to have one for the underrated.
This doesn't necceccarily have to be people who don't get reviewed as well as they should be, but also for people who aren't as popular as they ought to be for their talent.

Maggie Gyllenhaal
William H. Macy

I may think of more later.

I agree with James that William H. Macy is underrated, I also believe that Billy Connolly is very underrated as an actor...one more, Christian Bale is very very undrrated for the talent that he has...he has a range very seldom seen in actors today.

Christian Bale - YES! I've been a fan of his since Newsies, he plays such a large range of roles it is unbelievable.

Giovanni Ribisi - My all time favorite, I tend to have thing for underratted actors. In case you don't know who he is, he played the blonde guy in Flight of the Phoenix, he was also in Saving Private Ryan, Gone in 60 Seconds, and Sky Captain and the World of Tomorrow.

Giovanni Ribisi for sure! And I'm sure both Rachel and I agree that his nude scene in Suburbia was quite a nice piece of eye candy [Big Grin]

Forest Whitaker and John C Riley should have had an Oscar in their hands long ago...

And I'm glad Don Cheadle is finally getting some praise.

I have to concur with Allison on this one...John C. Reilly is another great actor that is not given the credit he has earned

As I said in the other thread, John C. Reilly. But as for others that are "underrated" I'd say:

Don Cheadle
Brenden Gleeson
Alan Rickman
John Goodman
Robbie Coltrane

Agreed on Maggie Gyllenhaal--she's both talented and attractive. I hope to see more of her. Also, Kelly Macdonald (best known for her performance in Trainspotting, but also from Two-Family House, Gosford Park, and others).

Giovanni Ribisi? Puhlease. I have no idea why people cast him.
