I don't, but I figure with the D&D topic, this would get some responses.

A lot of my employees used to. I think they're the reason why I hate the Ren Faire so much, because for a month straight half my staff needed Saturdays and Sundays off so they could go parade around in the sun in a bustier selling rotten carrots and snogging each other silly in their filthy dirty tents.

Though I'm sure it's lots of fun... [Razz]

Kat and I try to go whenever we can, it was far better when it was held at Black Point though. The newer one in western Marin is OK, but lacks the terrestrial charm of Black Point...

They do have great beer on tap though! [beer]

Scotty, give it a try sometime, you may be surprised. [Smile]

I'm speechless. It's almost poetic. [Big Grin]

In Massachusetts there is the King Richard's Faire which my friends and wife have been to a few times. All the requireds including a jousting tournament, turkey legs, different types of performances around the faire grounds, and of course lots of shops. The games can be lots of fun too, really simple stuff like shooting bows or crossbows, etc.

Every year the Cooper's Lake Campground in Slippery Rock, PA hosts a private club known as the Society of Creative Achronism in which members come from all over the country to participate in some wierd-ass Mid-evil/Renaissance events that are not open to the public. You always know when their in town since the Wal-mart, grocery stores, and the theatre are always full of them in 13th Century accoutrements.

Along the same vein as a Renaissance Faire, but not as hokey are historical festivals. I'd much rather attend these. Usually they are big craft faires with re-enactors from a particular historical period. Penn Colony (north of Pittsburgh) is probably about the best one I've ever attended. Its theme is the French and Indian / Revolutionary War. In past years there have been well over 1000 people in colonial costume its almost like colonial Williamsburg without the buildings.

The Great Trail Festival in Minerva, Ohio is also worth checking out, but I haven't been there in about five years. It too is F & I / Revolutionary themed, but not as large as Penn Colony.

Well -- at least somebody that enjoys hearing about hippie flu.

As far as where my allegiances lay at this website, I'm still trying to figure out if Phil Hill is my hero, or Joe Redifer. I'd like to say it's like apples and oranges, but it's more like fruits and vegetables. [Wink]

Or various kinds of jerky. [Razz]

Never been to a ren faire. Used to go to the Utah Shakespearean Festival every summer and fall in Cedar City. Outstanding regional rep theater just an hour's flight away.

And used to run a Super Trouper for the King Arthur's Tournament dinner and jousting show twice a night at the Excalibur Hotel and Casino here. Was a bitch swinging those lamps around from inside a full suit of armor...
