CNN (and other sources) are reporting that copies of "Revenge of the Sith" are already available for download online, via BitTorrent. Article here.

Money quote:
"According to Web site Waxy.org (http://www.waxy.org/), one print was leaked on Wednesday before the film was even released in theaters. The movie was time-stamped, suggesting it may have come from within the industry rather than from someone who videotaped an advance screening."

Gee, if only Fox would have put a 'false name' on the movie canisters (or should I say boxes) this time around instead of Star Wars 3 Revenge of... on it, none of this would happen! (pure sarcasm there, folks)

I smell a rat.

This rat "leaks" a "perfect digital copy" of a brand new movie to "digital pirates" who then "illegally" post said movie on the internet for download just hours before its "official release".

Then, this rat then jumps up and down, screams, yells and waves his arms, shouting "Piracy!! Piracy!!" at the top of his lungs.

Shortly thereafter, this rat's theories about how to "prevent" such piracy by providing only digitally encrypted copies over secure networks becomes the default solution to the "piracy problem".

Either that, or day-and-date DVD releases.

Mark Cuban is already working on a project that will do this. - Pathetic [uhoh]

You may be onto something there Randy. Sounds fishy. Another way for old Georgey to get his digital format moving along a bit faster.

The DVDs are already on the streets here in Manhattan. And are selling for between $5.00 to $10.00 a disc. [Eek!]

I love how everyone's saying that same day and date releases are just around the corner to counter piracy. I will shit a brick if this ever happens...and I don't count Mark Cuben's destined to fail project either. I'm talking major blockbuster movies...Like SW EP3, Batman Begins, War of the Worlds.

IT WILL NEVER HAPPEN!

I wouldn't put something like this past Lucas for a second. I don't think anything's beneath him at this point.

Oh! And, don't forget the plausible deniability thing.
It wasn't HIM. It was some underpaid grunt who sneaked into the server room after hours who did it! Of course, that guy will take the fall and Ol' George will be dressed in a TeflonŽ suit!
