We've finally made it!

quote:
Giving a hoot: Folks have been showing up all week at the area's first Hooters outlet, across from Arden Fair mall.

Trouble is, the place doesn't open until Monday. The overeager visitors were lured by billboards that went up a week earlier proclaiming that Hooters is "now open near Cal Expo."

Hooters PR guy Rick Bubenik says he wanted to get the word out. Thus the billboards. But he didn't want to waste money putting up a "coming soon" message and then changing it a week later.

He's hoping most people will learn the actual opening date from TV and radio spots that started Wednesday - and a message that began running Thursday on Cal Expo's electronic billboard.

Actually, it's a bit of a surprise that Hooters is making its Sacramento debut on Challenge Way, at the former Monterey Bay Canners restaurant site. The area franchisee wanted to open the first local Hooters in Natomas. Neighbors there objected, saying a company best known for waitresses in tight T-shirts was inappropriate for a residential area. A different site, near Arco Area, was selected. That place is now set to open in mid-October.

Have there been any objections to the second Natomas or Cal Expo locations? None at all, Bukenik says. "Everybody's saying, 'We're glad you're coming to town.' "

Chicken wings?

No, they feature another part of the body, but not on a chicken. [Wink]

God bless Hooters. It provides employment for all the trashy women who should be strippers, but just cant seem to pull the trigger.

Yeah. I went to my first Hooters in the early 90s expecting eye candy and not much else. To my pleasant surprise, the food was great, the service top notch, and the atmosphere pleasant.

The eye candy was great, also.

Sacramento is just now getting a Hooters location?

That's surprising. Oklahoma City has three locations. The Hooters company has been interested in building one here in Lawton (presumably to take advantage of the mostly male Fort Sill market). They will have some challenges though. The "pool of talent" for Hooters girls is spread a bit thin here, with the Dragon West, Night Trips and Sidewinders strip bars already competing for girls who want jobs where they wear next to nothing.

Here in Oklahoma, strippers have to cover their nipples with translucent or opaque latex thingies. What's that about?

Seems like many local governments choose to oppose (at least for show) the licensing and opening of a Hooters in their jurisdictions. When I lived in Long Beach, CA there was a huge tempest-in-a-teapot stink about letting Hooters open up downtown on Pine St. But it opened anyway and has been doing just fine these last several years. Haven't noticed the local community suffering any ill effects.

Even here in 'Vegas there was a bit of local opposition to Hooters when they opened their first location on West Sahara. Funny, there's been no opposition to Hooters taking over the San Remo Hotel & Casino, which will now be known simply as Hooters. I understand they'll make special rates available to Film-Techers for the next ShoWest. [Wink]

And of course they also operate an airline. Very nice FA uniforms. Now there's an airline I wouldn't mind flying for.

And now I have a respectable place to go watch football....considering we only have one professional sports team and it's not football.

A couple of years back, some restauranteur friends of mine wanted to open a Hooters here in Sacramento, but the license for Northern Cal was owned by a single family (out of Fresno, if I recall). The first Hooters in North Cal only opened two years ago near Fisherman's Wharf in SF. They wanted to put the Sacramento one in an affluent neighborhood near Arco Arena last year, but residents protested. Too close to schools, churches, children, yuppies, etc. This new location just came out of nowhere. I hadn't heard about it until I saw the billboard last week. And shame on you all for thinking Hooters hires strippers. Let's be pc and call them girls working their way through college.

Joseph,

Please change the title to be more specific, I would consider this a teaser title and as we all know, this is a big no-no!

Maybe try something like-
I finally see Hooters in Sacramento? [Smile]
