Just curious. Now that the Indy depot is closed we are getting our prints from Herbion (I think that is how it is spelled) Kentucky. Until the driver gets a schedule down our prints our up in the air on when they will be delivered. Last week they arrived at the normal time but this week the arrived at 11 pm. It's 2:13 and we are still at work building. FUN FUN FUN! It really is. [Frown]

Quite simply the most prized piece of equipment I ever obtained for working the booth. And yet... I've had people freak out over the price when I tell them to buy one. Its worth every penny, I swear.

Damn we needed one of those at my old theater. Wouldn't do any good at my current theater. We have MUTS and so we build directly onto the platter.

The only reason it took us forever was because one of our shift managers is still learning to build so he built his print slowly. Which was fine by me I rather him still be in the slow stage and not make any mistakes. This was only his second movie he built 100% by himself.

I prefer building in the buildup room where I have more light and control over the build. Using a MUT to build onto the platter seems a little less than optimal choice. Plus I don't think you can go as fast as you potentially can on a buildup table.

Of course, I picture some idiot building the print up on the Platter Reel and then trying to load it onto the platter via their MUT [uhoh] Which would work with a Christie type MUT but would leave them perplexed with horizontal type MUTs (e.g. Strong).

How much do they ususally run? I am going to hit my boss up for one after the holidays.

Amanda, everyone who is using platter reels has MUTS in their building! Think about it for a second...there is a weekly requirement known as breakdown. [Wink]

They run $350ish, give or take. I honestly haven't priced one in a few years, so who knows what the actual going rate is currently. Just check with your dealer. Do note that price is WITHOUT the "carrying case". Unless you plan on transporting prints between theater locations, the case is useless and fortunately Goldberg will sell the reel without the case, which knocks something like $100 off the price.

We have a well lighted build up room with a platter and 2 MUTS in it which is where we do our building.

So you make up the prints onto one platter and then move them before their first screening? Bad idea. Moving a print before its first screening can cause static issues and also can cause cinching, since film wound onto the platter from a MUT isn't usually wound as tightly as it would be if it had been taken up from a projector onto a platter.

Yup that is what we do. Though we really haven't had a problem as long as I worked there. We've had some static problems, I seem to be the one who always gets shocked while building.

Unfortunately unless our theater invests in more 6Ks (we only have 2) then we will have to continue building this way.

Getting shocked is not the static problems that is being refered to. Brain wraps among other problems, is caused by static.
Also cause's more dirt to be attracted to the print.

By the way, have seen no change in film deliveries due to the closing.
