What is that device on top of the projector?
At first glance it looks like there is film cleaning media attached, but after looking closer, that doesn't seem to be the case.

I also noticed that that set of pics as well as some of the other recents picture submissions don't have captions.
Were there just none available or will they be added at a later date?

James,
They should be brackets for their PTRs. If I remember correctly, I think a set of rollers snaps in place which allows you to engage or disengage them from the film path. It's been a while since I have seen them, I think Speco made them.,

I'm just too busy to write captions for all of the picture pages coming up. Are you volunteering? [Wink]

A good manager knows how to use their time wisely and delegates responsibilities to others. Captions for these pics would seem like a good task for Adam especially since they are "...from the Adam Martin collection." Besides, Adam told me he's bored and spends all his time on porno websites.

OBTW: That "bracket" is a PTR film cleaner. I think there was a another uncaptioned pic there with about a dozen PTR rollers on a table. While it's a great product for film-printing labs and 1570 projectors, they don't belong in a commercial 35mm theatre...waaaaay too much maintenance for them to work properly.

Since I'm not in the film/projection/engineering biz, I wondered what I was looking at just like several other members.

The purple seats in that theater kinda turn my stomach. All they need is bright toxic green thrown in somewhere and the look would be complete.

Nobody can caption pics they didn't take except me. And they wouldn't be polite captions, and I know Film-Tech doesn't want to offend any potential customers. But having no captions makes it easy to scroll through a picture page in less than 20 seconds. All that work taking pictures barely even noticed! [evil]

"Customers"???? Does that mean you have re-opened the "Film-Tech House of Ill-repute" or are you still sending them to "Phil's SeXXX Den"?

Screw the Empire 20--it's a generic recently built multiplex and looks exactly like half the multiplexes featured in the picture gallery. I'm still in awe of the Dolby screening room. I can't comment on picture and/or sound quality, but the room itself is gorgeous. [thumbsup]

It's the new reality show TV idea: Dolby Labs' "Pimp my Screening Room."

Too bad the audience demographic would be kinda limited in number. Not everyone gets excited about movie sound.

Heh, any captions I would make up would probably be lame attempts at humor.
And the pictures for the Hollywood 20 in Pasadena (a few miles from where I live) probably wouldn't be too favorable since the pictures make the place look better than it really is.

whats with new theatres and really old video games? Ms. Pac Man?! I've also never seen a coke machine in a lobby before. But you've got to love the dedication it took to cut tiles to put a star in the middle of the bathroom floor!
