Anyone have any expereiences with cell phone data software?

I'm not risking having to re-key all 300+ contacts, (not to mention 450+ phone numbers) should something happen to my phone.

All my google searches yeild a program called DataPilot. Anyone here familiar with it? Are there any other programs I should check out?

Well first off, what kind of phone do you have and who is your service provider? And does your phone have Bluetooth connectivity or possibly an IR port? Or will you need a data cable?

Many phones today have the ability to synchronize with Outlook or even come with software specifically designed for the phone. I do so via Bluetooth seamlessly. No other software required.

And some of the major wireless carriers have a feature allowing you to back up your phone book online with them. Company-operated stores often use such a function to transfer contacts from a customer's old phone to their new one.

Did your RAZR come with Motorola's "Mobile Phone Tools" software CD? You may already have everything you need (aside from maybe a USB connector or Bluetooth adapter for your PC).

I use a program called BitPim. It is very basic and easy to use.

Gotta watch out for disabled bluetooth features with some carriers. My Motorola v710 wireless phone has some really nice data transfer features via bluetooth, but ALL have been disabled by Verizon. I can still use a wireless bluetooth headset if I want, but they're too "trek-y" looking for me.

The operating manual that came with my phone from Verizon tell NOTHING about data transfer via bluetooth, but the downloadable manual from Motorola tells about it in great detail.

There is even a class-action suit in California right down against Verizon for this very same thing.

Negative, it did not.

Did your RAZR come with Motorola's "Mobile Phone Tools" software CD?

Believe it or not, not once... This phone is the most delicate phone I've ever had, that's for sure. I read MANY reviews that noted it was not user friendly, poor quality,etc.. I've found quite the contrary. Keep in mind that I've had a Nextel for the last 5 years, and I had the SAME phone all five of those years. It was, of course, a Motorola, so the basic 'gist' of the features I knew, yet the many upgrades available withthe Razr were new, yet welcomed.

This phone has great reception and excels for what it is, a phone. If you're looking for a PDA, look somewhere else. The battery life, bluetooth capability, clarity and reception are all phenominal.. the two worst features.. the speakerphone is weak... and the thin profile make it very difficult to hold on your shoulder w/out actually 'holding' it on your shoulder.. ShopCell.com has the Motorola software and USB data cable for $20. I have never used ShopCell.com, but here is the review page for them on NexTag.com.

The Motorola RAZR v3 uses a standard USB Mini-B cable for the data cable. If you own any digital cameras, handheld computers (i.e. Palm Pilot), or MP3 players, there's a good chance you might already have the correct cable used on the RAZR v3.

The connector on the RIGHT is a USB Mini-B connector. If you have a cable with this connector, you're golden. You just need drivers and the software.

I am only familiar with BitPim, and it is easy to use, free, and works well for me.

Yeah, what Robert said.

I was hoping to check with somebody in my office (we sell that phone) who has one what they used for synching...but nobody around here seems to think synching is important enough to understand! [Eek!]
