Where I work, I work on the phone, and heavey. I am one of our top performers in our departments, with a nearly seventy percent conversion rate that of what they had to what I sold them. The new goals for this year are based on my last years numbers.

Now my doctor says that the TM Joint in my jaw is shot, and I have to find another job. Not what I wanted to hear at all.

I have intervied for statystical analysis, and hope I get. I have always used this as a way to be successful in this business, and I think they realize that.

In the meantime, I get to eat soft foods, no chewing, and no yawning. WTF!!! NO YAWNING.... this is an american pasttime already. In a month they will see where we are and then decide on the surgery.

Regardless, I have been granted extened time off for this, and our company pays for that time off, so I am not totally pissed, but pissed none the less... I love to work, not ready for vacations....

not ready for mashed pototatoes. Is a pureed steak any good?

I have problems with my TMJ on the left side, had to go for a cat scan and an MRI, they found the joint is now bone rubbing against bone. The exercises the specialist gave me to do mixed with hot and cold compresses does a great job at removing the pain. I have no idea why this happened, I am 20 so it sure can't be old age!

I developed TMJ on my left jaw joint months after a fairly serious car accident (my 1992 Camaro was totaled when another driver rear ended it doing about 35mph while I was making a right turn).

Surgery is a last resort for TMJ since over 90% of all jaw joint surgeries fail. Not only is the jaw joint the most used joint in your body, it is also one of the most complicated.

Most doctors will recommend changes to lifestyle, such as no gum chewing. You have to eliminate as much wear and tear activity as possible. Many dentists can create custom fitted bite guards for you to use at night while you sleep. Some people develop TMJ over grinding their teeth during sleep.

Geeze guys! Sorry to hear of the problems! My Wife has TMJ but at least at this time it is at a point that is not too severe! As for pureed steaks..take it from me (who eventually lost all my original teeth and was without any for 2 1/2 years) 'Liquid' steak or any other food is still better than NONE!! Now that I have dentures, it is soooo wonderfull to be able to eat physically complete steaks again!! And for those who know me well, NO! I don't have TMJ! Even with all the jaw-jacking I have done over the years!! ( AKA The gift of gab!!!) Good luck with the surgery..but I am sorry your job is at stake! Maybe I am doing the right thing in getting back on the road and out of this office where I have two headsets on at all times and talk on the fone all day!!

Ouch! Having caught a baseball bat in the mouth from 90' when I was 17 I feel for you after more than 40 years of jaw, mouth and teeth problems. After the accident they counted more than 80 cracks in the bones in my face. (I know, "Why is this guy still smiling?")

It might be worth it to get a second opinion as I recently read that up to 25% of initial medical diagnoses are wrong or at least partially incorrect.

Good luck and hope it works out well.
