I'm sure this varies city by city, but does anyone here have a ballpark figure of what I should expect to pay for a shooting permit for a short amount of time? We are gonna make a kick-ass unicycle video and we'd like to do have many scenes in public areas that normally do not like unicycles. We've already been tossed off of the 16th Street Mall which is a lame outdoor mall in downtown Denver. We figure we can run and gun but we're just looking into this, something like the Capitol (outdoor) would be nice. We don't need to stop traffic or anything like that. I am betting the $$$ will be way beyond what we are willing to part with, though.

Denver: How to Obtain a Film Permit

It appears to be free so long as you don't need to stop traffic or anything like that. You have to provide insurance unless it's a student project submitted on school letterhead.

If you follow the rules of guerrilla filmmaking, it shouldn't cost you a penny. [Wink]

I think New York City is free, too. They really just want to know where you're going to be.
