The way this group jumps on celebrity deaths, I'm amazed that nobody has posted the news yet that Marcel Marceau, world famous mime and performer of one of the most famous lines in a Mel Brooks movie, has died. This is another one of the many celebs that I know virtually nothing about, but have respect for because he seemed to be a class act.

I believe his only spoken on show words were in fact in the Mel Brooks movie "Silent Movie" he said "NO"!

He had a speaking role in SHANKS, a film William Castle directed.

I saw him many years ago at the Ohio Theatre. A masterful performance. There was this guy who had title cards for each section. He would stand motionless while the card was displayed. I heard he was with Marceau for many, many years.

Phil H - that's hilarious! [Big Grin]

Phil B - you are correct, it was the only spoken word in that movie. (In some places, the word is quoted as "Non!")

When I saw the film I got the joke but none of my friends with me did. One of my favorite moviegoing moments. [Big Grin]

Back in the 1970's, he issued an album of his greatest hits. It contained 20 minutes of silence followed by 30 seconds of clapping on each side.

Some of you old farts will probably recall his many appearances on the Ed Sullivan Show in the '50s and '60s.

There were no last words, but I understand there were several gestures.

I had the privilege of seeing him a few years ago when he performed in Melbourne.

A brilliant artist.

cheers Peter
