I haven't used Movie Maker, but the most likely reason is that the video isn't in the correct format for a video DVD. The requirements are quite strict, you can't just put any MPEG files onto a DVD and have them play on a normal player. How are you creating the DVD? Does Movie Maker do this, or is it just used for editing, with some other software used to create the DVD?
If you open the DVD on a computer are you seeing the correct file structure, there should be a folder named 'VIDEO_TS', which should contain various .VOB, .IFO and .BUP files. Are you seeing this, or something different?
Another possibility, though unlikely now, is that some old DVD players can't play recordable DVDs; mine can't for example, but it is a very early model.
