Dick Martin has died at 86. Dick Martin , the zany half of the comedy team whose "Rowen and Martin's Laugh-In" took the TV by storm in the 1960s, making stars out of Goldie Hawn and Lily Tomlin and featured many other young stars. Dan Rowen died back in 1987.

Sock it to me!

RIP

You bet your sweet bippy.

It may be a Japanese rice wine to you, but it's still sake to me.

Wow! Another legend departs us.

R.I.P. Dick Martin.

That's really sad.

Laugh In was a high point of our weekend viewing.

" Say Goodnight, Dick"

"Goodnight Dick"

From one Dick to another.

RIP

Off topic:
Ironically, there is a brand called "sake to me." They make sake infused with flavors of fruit. The only one I've had was mixed with Asian pears. It tasted fantastic.

On topic:
Too bad to see a legend go. I only saw reruns of his show with my parents but he was a funny guy.

I wasn't allowed to watch Laugh-In the first year or two it was on, but my parents finally decided it was harmless enough. I liked the scenes with Dan and Dick the best...comedy gold, you bet your sweet bippy.

Oh, I'm sorry to hear this. I didn't realize he was that old. Those guys were legend. I remember watching Rowan and Martin's Laugh-In in the late 60s and doing skits from the show in our school. It was really a trend-setting program.

A few years back, I was working at a video tape duplicating facility.

I was a Sprinter operator. (Sprinter is the brand name of a high speed video tape duplicator by Sony) We were duplicating Best Of Laugh-In shows.

I got to enjoy these shows allover again.

Rowan and Martin were an original.

What's a Maltese Bippy? [Eek!]

hahaha- I thought I was the only one whose parents did this to me. I too missed the first season or two until my folks realized it was actually a very funny, and harmless show.

Laugh-In transformed the 'look' of television in the 1960's.
Its' use of fast-cutting was innovative at the time, and all the more so when you consider that electronic editing was in its' infancy and from what I've read many of the early shows were entirely edited MANUALLY (ie: cut & splice) on 2" tape.
WoW!

I actually caught the show on "Nick at Night" when I was a kid. No age comments, I know I'm probably younger than the average on here, but still. I rather liked the show. Especially the german guy. "Verry Interesting" It's been a few years since I've seen it, I forgot his name.

One thing that the younger folks may not realize is that when LAUGH-IN was on, there were only 3 or 4 TV channels in most markets (excluding the very large cities). So, almost everyone watched the same shows, and Laugh-In was especially popular. No VCR's here...you had to watch it live.

I was in my Senior year of high school when this was on, and everyone laughed and rehashed the jokes the following day (I think Laugh-In was on Monday's at 8?) The night TINY TIM came on everyone just stopped and stared.

Much like the Smothers Brothers, there was a political tone to some of these shows...especially on Laugh-In with the Flying Fickle Finger of Fate award.

Great times, and lots of laughs. And Goldie Hawn never looked cuter!

Pigmeat may have written it, but Sammy owned it:

"Here come da judge, here come da judge..." [Smile]

As for editing, by the time Laugh In hit the air razor blade editing of quad tape, at least at the network level, was but a fond but not too distant memory. NBC was still an all-RCA network and the show would have been recorded and edited on TR-70's there "in beautiful downtown Burbank."

Indeed, "Good night Dick." RIP

I worked with Richard Dawson's son on a docu. and his dad and Dick Martin were pals in the 60s... apparently Dick could party with the best of them and it was a swingin good time! [thumbsup]
