The Hawaii Visitors Bureau seem to be worried about the movie "A PERFECT GETAWAY" that opens in theatres tomorrow. Unlike FORGETTING SARAH MARSHALL" and other movies filmed in Hawaii that make my state a an ideal place to visit, the movie is about a newlywed couple fighting for their lives on Kauai's Napali Coast from some unknown murderers. From the trailers I have seen of the movie, Hawaii is beautifully portrayed except for the violent scenes. All of our hotels are really hurting and they have drastically reduced their room rates and air fares to Hawaii I understand are very low at the present time. The ironic thing about this movie is the fact that almost all of it was filmed in Puerto Rico. The only scenes filmed in Hawaii were some of the ariel shots of the Napali Coast and the Kalalau Valley where the story takes place. For those of you who have seen it, how was it and do you agree the screen violence has the potential to make people think twice about vacationing in Hawaii? The HVB think so and they are very concerned.

All because of a movie that hasn't even opened yet?

I highly doubt it'll have any effect on tourism... there's really no name stars in it and it'll probably be forgotten in a few weeks after it's release.

Tim, Hawaii's travel industry is hurting because of the poor economy in the U.S., and elsewhere and not the movie. They are concerned however that the film could make some people believe Hawaii is not a safe place to visit and making our current bad economic condition, worse.

Just hang in there a few more months until winter comes. All the pop music radio stations in the Midwest will be doing their yearly contests in which grand prize is a trip to Hawaii in January.
