After almost two years of publicly battling pancreatic cancer, Patrick Swayze has succumbed to the disease, reports TMZ. He was 57.

Once one of Hollywood’s biggest actors after iconic roles in Ghost, Point Break, and Dirty Dancing, Swayze most recently starred in a single season of the A&E series The Beast, which he was able to complete despite his cancer’s debilitating effects.

More on this breaking story tomorrow.

See ya' Johnny!

There's a nice obituary video at smh.com.au

Here's the link.

My sympathies go out to the family he's left behind.

RIP.

Great link! Dirty Dancing was filmed here in SW Virginia at a nearby resort, Mountain Lake. The lake has since sprung a leak and completely dried up. Engineers think the break is too big to close with concrete, maybe it'll seal itself and refill some day, it has before. Swayze had quite a reputation around here as a gentleman and made several trips back to the resort for personal holidays. He was well admired as an actor and an all around good guy in these parts. RIP

It's pretty disappointing Patrick Swayze succumbed in his fight against pancreatic cancer. I was really hoping he would somehow pull through, although odds of surviving that kind of cancer are pretty slim.

Many know him for his late 1980s and early 1990s films, but I think he really broke through in 1983 with The Outsiders. He gained more popularity in Red Dawn. That set the stage for him getting cast in much bigger hits like Dirty Dancing and Ghost. Networks like SpikeTV are getting more mileage out of movies like Road House and Next of Kin.

My favorite Patrick Swayze moment was in Road House, when he shows his ass on the screen. Some woman in the audience yelled out, "Oh, there it is!" and everyone cracked up. No pun intended.

Though many people don't know him, Jim Carroll also died today. He was the real life person portrayed in (and author of the book) "The Basketball Diaries."

He also had some great punk music in him:

"People Who Died"

"Catholic Boy"

So, only one to go...

I guess someone will need to add another verse to Jim Carroll's song People Who Died classic so he can be added into the lyrics.

Pancreatic cancer is one of the more nasty, painful cancers. To go through that for two years....

RIP Patrick, at least the pain is gone.....

I always wondered if he was related to John Cameron Swayze?
