Actor Rip Torn, who was arrested Friday night after allegedly breaking into a bank in Salisbury, Connecticut, appeared in court Monday and posted $100,000 bond.

Torn, 78, was arraigned on burglary and firearms charges in Bantam Superior Court. His attorney, A. Thomas Waterfall, said his client has been cooperative.

The actor is accused of breaking into a bank near his Lakeville home on Friday night with a revolver while intoxicated.

The Oscar-nominated Torn, best known for his role as Zed in the "Men in Black" movies, is expected to go into a treatment facility for alcohol abuse, said Waterfall.

"Mr. Torn is expected to enter an alcohol treatment center as soon as possible and this was a condition of release by the judge," said Waterfall, adding that he was hoping it would be as soon as Tuesday.

This guy gets my "Oliver Reed Dumb Drunk Things Award" for the year!

Thank God there are still actors like Rip to liven up the sterile homogenised Acting scene. [thumbsup]

Long may Rip not R.I.P.

He's made my day. [Big Grin]

I'm sure that somewhere among all the episodes of the "Larry Sanders Show" there's a great line that Artie would have spoken on this occasion. I might have to watch a few shows later on tonight and see if I can find one.

My favorite Artie line, oddly appropriate for this situation:

When you die and meet Your Maker, this is what you'll smell on His breath,
said by Artie while holding a bottle of Glenlivet scotch.

Only Rip Torn could do something this dumb and come out of it seeming all the more awesome.

(Okay, maybe Robert Downey Jr...)

He thought he was in his house and asked the police why he was getting arrested for breaking into his own house.

Apparently the bank was built into an old house... I was told that it was nearby (or next to) Rip's house and looked very similar... Seems like just a drunken mistake to me!
