Aside from the fact that this thread and the picture page itself will immediately become obsolete the second any change to the room is made, I thought I'd make a thread dedicated to discussion of this fabulous new room built by our own Josh and Danny for our pal Brad.

Here are the pics!
(Yes, the classic view. Thumbnail view is for hobos. Give it time to load if you are still in the 90's.)

This room really looks very professional. The booth itself is freakin' awesome! I love how much space there is in there. The old room was pretty cramped, but workable. I can imagine sleeping bags and tents set up in this booth. The super-delay for the cues is interesting I suppose. I bet rewinding that film cleaner is lots of fun. You forgot to show pictures of the A-frame ladder that is required to do that.

The auditorium itself looks awesome, though I have always been far more partial to the stylings of the JBL surrounds over the blocky-looking QSCs. The seats are uber-stylish. They kind of remind me of the "premium" seating at Hollywood theaters. The screen seems perhaps a bit small, but I will assume that the masking on the bottom was all the way up and the actual space for flat and scope are bigger. I honestly feel that there should be a monkey trapped in a hanging cage somewhere in there for absolutely no reason whatsoever. Or at least one in the booth. I love monkeys!

The pics give Plano, TX as the location. Did Brad move from Rockwall?

Is any sort of F-T get-together planned for screening a movie or two?

He did move away from Rockwall because there was no Radio Shack there. Who wouldn't?

Question: Why does digital cinema require a larger port window?

Not sure what 3D Brad's using, but our Real D needs a pretty big port too as one image is above the other.

Love the cinema now. Well done you guys. [thumbsup]

PS: Joe, you do know you're not supposed to comment on pictures, right? What the hell's wrong with you? [Wink]

What does the CP500 do for magnetic soundtracks that the CP650 does not?

He'll like that NEC-1600C unit with the option of using from 2k to 4k bulbs in that thing. Easy unit to work on - back end opens up for the bulb change which takes seconds to do - just the time needed to calibrate and focus the bulb in for maximum brightness is needed. Side panels opens up for the light engine and filter changeouts are a snap to do.

He'll prob bug Tim Reed to come over and help Brad on how to play with it since Tim has the NEC Commander Software to hone that thing in to sharpness..

Prob the reason for the larger window if he uses REAL-D's XL polarizer defuser - a twin reflective panel, high light output polarizer defuser which sits out in front of the main lens..and you need port window space for that attachment. Even if he went with the standard defuser, still, you need some space. Also, having bigger windows so you can see out better...

I also notice on the penthouse stack - when we had SDDS,basement reader SRD and DTS, it seems that the appropriate is to have the DTS being the lowest reader, Yet, looks odd that way with "Atlas" holding up the "heavies" above him.

...Ah..but shame --- Flat lens in the window sill...

Noticable differences,

Le an Re channel are removed [Frown]
No subwoofers!!!!! [Eek!] (at least in the pics [Big Grin] )
Brad is getting into the Digital take over realm. Shame on you.
The screen is white so I doubt RealD is being used.
All in all a well nice layed out booth. [thumbsup]

Hmmm, an odd amount of confusion. Perhaps I raced through the captioning too fast.

It doesn't. The captions never said larger, however adding a 3rd projector does mean more (quantity).

I am not using 3D, but if I did it would be Dolby.

Format 43.

Not really. It is nowhere close to the quality of a Christie in my book. It is just temporary to evaluate it. You need to work with a Christie before you tout how wonderful you think the NEC is.

Nobody uses them anymore. Its essentially a dead format.

Look at the pictures of the screen and masking going up. There are QSC 21" units on the floor. -

No worries, there is room for the monkey cage behind the sound rack.

For some odd reason he first thing that comes to mind after seeing those pics is a clip from "dude, where's my car". Phrases "Sweet!" and "dude!" keep bouncing back and forth here. Maybe it's just the mention of the monkey. (wanna borrow my four-year-old? Fits the part)

All in all; Sweet! Especially the space in the booth. Ideal work conditions...

Look for a Panastereo CSP4600. That would be a better 70mm processor in your case. It can have on-board preamps for 35 and 70mm mag, it will process format 40, 41, 42, 43, and the 35 mags (with 12KHz switching) and also do a downmix of 5-screen channels to 3. It would be an ideal compliment to your system as you have laid it out. The only thing that would need to be modded is the changeover since it operates serially..I would probably use a contact closer to serial interface for that though.

Of course, there is no 70mm processor like the CP200, if you have 5 screen channels.

With your SDDS, I'm surprised you don't have any 8-channel prints...I would have done 5-screen channels in a room like this...also for any 4:3 stereo stuff when you get video up and going (or the odd 1.33 stereo movie like Wizard of Oz).

Nice Job overall...very impressive.

Steve
