The biggest problem with cell phones is that they don't have an easy way to prevent annoying people from calling at unacceptable hours of the day. I want to find a way around that.

I have an iphone. (I don't particularly like it, but it gets the job done for now.) The iphone SHOULD have a way to do this, with the "there's an app for everything", but it can't run applications in the background, so maybe not.

My plan is to simply assign people who have enough courtesy to know when NOT to call if it isn't an emergency to their own ringtones, and then during the night set the default ringer to a silent ringtone.

Simple and effective. Problem solved...until I forget to change the ringtone back to something audible the next morning (which will happen).

So how do I set the iphone to automatically change the default ringtone at a predetermined time in the morning and then change it back to the silent ringtone at a predetermined time of the night?

Does this app exist?

I know this is not quite what you have in mind but until such time as an app is created to do this couldn't you set a reminder to go off at night to remind you to put your phone on silent, then have a reminder go off in the morning reminding you to turn your ringer back on? I don't know about the Iphone but most phones have seperate volume settings for the alarm clock or reminders than the ring tone so even with your ringer off you should still get your "reminder"

Brad,

There's an app out there called "Silent" and says.....

"Silent also features 'Push Reminders'. When the app recognizes it is in silent mode, it schedules a reminder to be sent to you via a push notification after a specified (via settings) amount of time."

It also says its free to try, but then if you want to continue using the reminders you have to pay. If you just want to silent your phone during a movie/dinner then this might work.

I have a radio app that allows the iPhone to play the station in the background while you do other things on the phone. It's 102.9 MGK Philadelphia if you want to give it a go.

This app does what you are looking for, but it's for Droid. Maybe it will be available for the iphone soon.
