What movies do you enjoy that are panned/hated by many other people?

This list could include movies that you know are sorta bad in your heart-of-hearts, but enjoy as a sort of guilty pleasure (reference Point Break).

But more interesting to me would be movies that many/most people think are bad but you would actually defend as good. Has one of your favorite movies swept the Razzie awards? We need to know about your horrible tastes so that we can all ridicule and scorn you!

For me, the guilty pleasures would include the aformentioned "Point Break" as well as "Last Action Hero".

Hated movies that I think are actually pretty good would include "Bowfinger" (I believe it won some Razzies but I thought it was pretty funny in a satirical way). I think I am also the only person in the world who liked the "The Village" (a lot Shymalan's movies have been really despised, but for me "Lady in the Water" was only that had no redeeming qualities.)

So...any other Philistines out there with horrible taste in movies?

Conan the Barbarian! That should have been right at the top of my list! If I am flipping through the TV channels and see that movie then I no longer need the remote...

I have to go with Armageddon also, though I've never seen it in a theatre, and I'm not sure I could sit through it.

It is the perfect piece of cliched manipulation. You could close your eyes and the music would tell you exactly how to react.

And, of course, you know the director was saying:

"Look beautiful and happy, Liv"
"Look beautiful and unhappy, Liv"
"Look beautiful and confused, Liv"
"No, Liv, No. Don't talk!"

Last Action Hero

Correct me if I'm wrong, but isn't the lamp dowser closed when Robert Prosky goes to focus the projector? The scene is close to the beginning of the film.

Demetrius is winning so far. All the other films mentioned are Citizen Kane by comparison!

"Top Gun" and "Mr. and Mrs. Smith" are guilty pleasures of mine, and I am sure I have a load more that I can't think of at the moment. I like a lot of good movies too, but these are the ones that come to mind when I think of bad movies that I like.

Sure, they have their problems but I wouldn't call either of those 'bad'.

Hands down it is "Supercross-The Movie" for me.

It was an attempt to make my favorite sport accessable to the general public.

The storyline, while a bit weak, had some merits. The acting ranged from passable to bad, (they cast Aaron Carter as a racer, yikes), and some of the action shots were really good, but the editing of the action totally blew chunks, it was way too choppy and ruined the feel of the action.

The one highlight for me was the casting of my friend and real-life Supercross racer, Tyler "one-Punch" Evans. He was the real deal and has actual acting capability.

If you can get this one on a cheap rental and if you like motorsports, check it out.

"Grunt- The Wrestling Movie"

and

"Dr Otto and the Riddle of the Gloom Beam"

Both [bs] canned by the critics, and if truth be known are really awful films but hey, I love them.

I enjoyed The Village myself, in fact I've pretty much enjoyed all of Shyamalan's movies.

The two movies that I am pretty much alone in liking: the original Casino Royale, the one with David Niven and Woody Allen. I still think that it's hysterically funny, and nobody but nobody else agrees. The other is John Boorman's Zardoz. I saw this one from the booth many times before I finally went downstairs on my night off to watch it. I think that it pretty much went over the heads of a lot of people, and granted it was pretty bizarre in spots, but I thought that overall the premise (that immortality was so boring that people would try to breed an exterminator that would eventually figure out how to kill them) was really original and interesting. I still pull the DVD off the shelf at least once a year to watch it.
