I see on the outside page that a thread has a new post, like The Fake Movie Name thread, last posted in by Michael Brown:

 -

I click into the subforum and see that the thread has no new posts (sometimes it's not even on the page at all):

 -

Here the thread is on the page, but it has not been updated. It claims the most recent post was made by Jesse Skeen.

I've noticed this too. Like on some thread, I made a post but then later it said that Mike Frese was the last to post, so I assumed he'd answered my post, but then mine was still really the last one.

It is some issue with the thread list display not updating (the reply is there if you view the post).

I have only noticed it recently (past few days).

Also, it used to be that the NEW POSTS and NO NEW POSTS indicators were accurate. Lately I find that I will see a number of forums that have the NEW POSTS flag up. I will go into one of them, read the new posts, but when I come back out to the main page (clicking on the FORUMS tab), when that page opens up, every forum will then have NO NEW POSTS flags. Weird; to my knowledge, it didn't use to do that -- the forums with new posts still had the green NEW POSTS flag until they were opened.

Frank,

The forum has always marked everything read as soon as I read a single entry. I've just gotten used to immediately opening a new browser tab for each "community", and the from their open each article of interest in a new tab.

Sub-optimal

Backend is probably farked. [bs]

PHP forums are for losers anyway. Perl is like 35mm, it'll be around forever... Apparently.

Probably nothing more than a glitch in the MATRIX or a tiny little INCEPTION while you were sleeping.

These aren't the lies you're looking for.
You can go about your business.

This appears to be a glitch related to threads marked for email alerts. If Daryl ever checks his email, it might get fixed.

That's weird. Is it per user? I do not have nor have I ever marked any threads for email alerts. Or maybe if someone else did, it screws it up for everyone? Damn you all!

I don't use the email alerts function either, yet the forum lies to me sometimes too. It just started doing this in the last week or two.

If anyone has marked the thread for alerts, it causes the problem.

In the case of this thread, it's Frank's fault. He marked the thread for email alerts. I have removed the flag from his post.
