My email address has found its way into various companies press release list. The occasional press release of something new or a major announcement is an interesting read, but of course part of the definition of a press release must be that it is painfully lame, filled with nothing but pat-on-the-back / self-suck fluff.

There is also at least one company that makes a damn press release every time they sell ANYTHING. Really? OMG we just sold another box! We must now make a press release!

Many of them don't even bother to spell check or make sure it is proofed by someone who speaks English either.

This one takes the cake. I've never even heard of this company, although they are "the world leading provider of digital audio and visual products".

and I quote...

quote:
FOCUX to Launch the World First Wireless Cinema Audio Processor CM24 in CineAsia 2011

FOCUX Technology LLC. the world leading provider of digital audio and visual products, is pleased to announce the new product launch of CM24 Wireless Digital Cinema Processor.
“The perfect processor must be very simple for operation. We make impossible possible. The processor is very powerful and complicated but the operation is so simple,” said Steve Johnson, the R&D director of FOCUX.

FOCUX technology always makes the difference. The newest CM24 cinema processor is integrated with the technology of FOCUX digital audio processing, which is another masterpiece of FOCUX. This is a super powerful audio processor! Just try to imagine, a device with only 44mm height is installed up to 130 professional audio processors. What an amazing processor! Moreover, there aren’t any buttons on such powerful device. All the operations will be realized on 7 buttons in a 7 inch wireless touch pad. Using one finger can control the processor with ease. Please note that this is not a product found in a science fiction movie, this is FOCUX newest CM24 wireless digital cinema processor!

FOCUX again subvert the tradition. The processor is very innovative and advanced with the highest performance. It is the most complex audio management system. But FOCUX design a very easy-to-operate control for CM24. Users can control the processor with a wireless touch pad only. The work status of each channel will be clearly displayed real-time. The touch pad will communicate with the processor wirelessly. Users can operate the processor according to their preferences. This is a brand-new design for the operation of cinema processor. FOCUX brings the real advanced experience for global digital cinemas.

“CM24 will make its debut in CineAsia Hong Kong 2011. It is an amazing product,” said Astina Leung, the Vice President, Sales of FOCUX.

It reads like it is translated from some (non-Western) language. I've seen better on small manuals that come with cheap Chinese watches. Louis

1) A world leading provider of audio equipment would have more than one audio product.

2) The company's website ( http://focux.me ) indicates the company is in Montenegro. So they could be translating the original material from any number of languages...

I can just imagine the "US" side of a phone conversation calling into their company. Other people in the room would hear something like this.

"Hello, I am looking to speak with a technician for the FOCUX sound processor."

"Huh? The FOCUX sound processor."

"No I need to speak to a technician please."

"What? Can you repeat that please?"

"Huh? A technician."

"A tech. Help support."

"FOCUX repair."

"What did you say?"

"What? Please repeat that?"

"Huh? I'm sorry I cannot understand you."

"English?"

"Ummm, Engrish?"

and on and on and on.

Foreign companies that want to be successful in foreign English-speaking markets need to make sure they have people on staff that speak clear English to provide good sales and support. There is nothing more aggravating than asking them to repeat what they said over and over and over so we can try and "translate" though their thick accent...but that is never the case.
