I read that Sony is rereleasing 'Lawrence of Arabia' to the big screen prior to it's blu-ray release (rumoured November 13) in 2K and 4K, at one point there was mention that a few 70mm prints would also be culled, but currently it seems like it's only going to be released in DCP form - is this true? no 70mm prints this go around??

My understanding is that it will be a one-night-only, NCM Fathom-type event on Thursday October 4th.

The whole point of the theatrical run is to show off the 8K digital restoration prior to it's BluRay release. It wouldn't make a lick of sense to go thru the effort of striking new 70mm prints, and the old prints would not be representitive of how the film will look on the disc. There'd be no point to it.

and of the couple Fathom events/presentations I've seen, they are so subpar in PQ. I would think and hope Sony will release this as they did with last year's 'Taxi Driver' in DCP form.

Might as well watch it on a telephone.

Lawrence will be shipped to theaters on a hard drive, per our corporate office. Theaters have the option of playing the 2PM showing in one auditorium and the 7PM showing in another auditorium.

We're showing it in 4K for two weeks starting September 23. A pity about there not being any new 70mm prints, but a very understandable one.
