The revisors (film and video inspectors)for the 2012 Toronto International Film Festival have gone on a labour action. (Apparently it's not a strike, but there's pickets). The festival starts next Thursday. The main dispute appears to be about farming out work to Deluxe.

(No politics intended, but IATSE also has a page up. Couldn't seem to find any statement from TIFF).

This is another example of why the IATSE hold the place it does today in the exhibition industry. If TFF ignores them long enough, they will crawl back under their rock.

No part of the above statement is intended to reflect on the many skilled professionals who at one time or another are/were represented by the IATSE, but intended as a comment against the management of the IATSE which by requiring venues to staff for services no longer needed has negotiated themselves into irrelevancy.

If the information I read is right, the revisor work IS needed, but it was farmed out to Deluxe because there weren't the facilites available to cope with demand. A little surprising considering the main venue only got built two years ago, specifically for cutting edge technology.
