The Byrd Theatre's oldest continuous patron died this past Wednesday night. Bootsie Donati had been coming to the Byrd almost weekly since his parents brought him opening week in December 1928 at the age of 6. Bootsie said the only time he missed coming was during WWII where he participated in the Battle of the Bulge as an infantryman. In later years he suffered from peripheral nerve damage in his feet and hands as a result of exposure to the extreme cold. He will be sorely missed by our staff, he was a great ambassador for the theatre and a movie buff.

Always sad to hear when a loyal patron passes. The worst is when they just stop coming and you wonder if they passed or just moved on to something else. We had a very loyal patron pass once, and their remaining season tickets were never used.

Get a brass name plate made up and put it on the back of one of the seats in his honor. That will always be Bootsie's seat.
