Author Topic: OnStar Richard Hamilton Phenomenal Film Handler Posts: 1341 From: Evansville, Indiana Registered: Jan 2000 posted 10-02-2013 06:14 AM                     Anyone have any experience with it? I just got a new (used) car and activated it for 3 months. I'm only interested in the hands free phone. I don't have a cell phone and the service is cheaper than signing up for a wireless plan and buying a cell phone. If the unit is installed in a car (whether or not a subscription is active) the company can track the location of that car and, potentially, sell the location data to third parties. There is also a possibility (I don't remember if it was ever confirmed) that the company has the ability to eavesdrop on a car's occupants without their knowledge or consent. Personally, I would look into these issues further before buying a car with Onstar or doing business with the company.  |  IP: Logged
