Well this is I believe a first.....the "mid-credits scene" that's become standard equipment on all Marvel movies is, in this new Spidey film, nothing more than a trailer for a rival studio's movie. That's right, instead of putting in a "real" Easter egg like the fans will expect, Sony allowed Fox to sneak in a short trailer for their X-Men movie which comes out in 3 weeks.

The X-Men clip apparently has nothing to do with the Spider-Man movie or universe at all. It doesn't show the title of the movie or any credits, just a plain black screen at the end of it with a tiny Marvel logo in one bottom corner and a Fox logo in the other. There is no extra scene at the very end of the movie.

I think a few fans, who are now expecting a mid-credits scene with every Marvel movie, will feel ripped off. Can't say for sure because I'm not a Marvel fanboy.

I found this on the web which explains how/why it happened:

quote:
Marc Webb had an existing contract with Fox Searchlight to helm another film following 2009?s “500 (Days) of Summer.” After “The Amazing Spider-Man” in 2012, Webb’s negotiations briefly stalled with Sony as he was caught in a tug-of-war with Fox. Eventually, Fox agreed to allow Webb to direct Sony’s “Spider-Man” sequel, but only if Sony would promote its “X-Men” film for free.
