Why?
Maybe they've confused "re-make" with "re-release"

quote:
Iervolino said, “‘Memento’ has been consistently ranked as one of the best films of its decade. People who’ve seen ‘Memento’ 10 times still feel they need to see it one more time. This is a quality that we feel really supports and justifies a remake. The bar is set high thanks to the brilliance or Christopher Nolan, but we wouldn’t want it any other way.”

I've never seen "Memento." But if it's that acclaimed, why do a remake? What's next, a remake of "Gone with the Wind" or "Citizen Kane?"

I've thought for a long time that they should do remakes on shitty movies that were made from excellent books. Then promote that fact --- "The Original Sucked, This Version is Excellent!"

Memento is acclaimed for its non-linear structure that really annoyed audiences who didn't want to pay attention. I'm sure you can find an online version that re-edits it into chronological order. Which is the only thing I can imagine a remake can do to "improve" it. It's not like a ret-con or reboot, and a sequel would be even sillier.

Given that explanation, people who like "Memento" should search out Tom Bodett's (the Motel 6 spokesguy) album called "Exploded." In the title track, recorded before a live audience, he has a story that's written on 12 index cards. He says he wonders how it would work if the story itself got "exploded," and with that he flings the cards away -- then reads the story in random order by having the audience members point out where each card landed. It's fascinating how you hear these random bits and then it all begins to fall together about halfway through. It's a really good story, too.

According to Aamir Khan, "Ghajini is not a remake or even slightly inspired by Memento, but it's a remake of the Tamil film, Ghajini".[4]
But what the hell, it's got singing and dancing [Wink]
