This is the big finale of CinemaCon where they present the awards in a ceremony that seems almost like a mini-Oscars, except you know the winners in advance.

I have a feeling the awards are not necessarily just for merit, but more based on who can show up to accept.

It'd be interesting to check back in about five years and see if the "Stars of Tomorrow" have actually become big stars.

2017 BIG SCREEN ACHIEVEMENT AWARDS

EMCEE: Natalie Morales, “Access Hollywood”

Cinema Icon Award — Goldie Hawn
Breakthrough Performer of the Year — Brenton Thwaites
Producer of the Year — Chris Meledandri
Rising Star of the Year — Isabela Moner
Director of the Year — Jordan Peele
International Achievement in Comedy — Eugenio Derbez
Distinguished Decade of Achievement in Film — Naomi Watts
Action Star of the Year — John Cena
Male Star of Tomorrow — Ansel Elgort
Female Star of Tomorrow — Sofia Boutella
Comedy Star of the Year — Kumail Nanjiani
CinemaCon Vanguard Award — Salma Hayek
Male Star of the Year — Charlie Hunnam
Female Star of the Year — Jessica Chastain

Yawn....

Best award luncheon I was ever at was when Tom Bosley was booed for yelling at the audience to shut up. That was the year of Million Dollar Mystery... 1987.... Perhaps they were really booing that movie.

What, yet ANOTHER effin awards hand-out? Hollywood is the most self-congratulatory, mutual masturbatory bunch of ego sluts of any other industry on the planet. They spend inordinate amounts of time giving themselves multiple, worthless awards, the impact of which, whether actor or picture or director A B or C wins this or that award, in the end is pretty meaningless to the average Joe, i.e., to REAL people.

Hey, in my book, the honest and knowledgeable mechanic who actually fixes my car and charges a fair price, HE deserves an award more than someone who makes 2 hours worth of forgettable fluff entertainment. Give a Globe Award to that bus driver who waits the extra 30 seconds for the old lady running for her life to catch the bus instead of driving off leaving her panting at the bus stop. That teacher who spent the extra time helping my kid understand math...where is her Oscar?

There are dozens of individuals who we all come in contact with every day who make life just a little better for us -- THEY are truly worthy of an award statue. As far as I'm concerned, you can line up that ever-expanding list of award shows, all costing exorbitant amounts of money to produce (wasted money, I say) and put a black-out on all of them and I bet no one would miss them for a second. No Teen Choice awards? No Daytime Emmy Awards? How could we possibly survive? Bet no one would give a damn.

Do we really need an MTV Movie Awards? As it is, about 10 minutes after all the awards are given out and the blah, blah, blah speeches are over, no one except the winners, and maybe the losers, will remember them. About the only thing most people remember is that they were TOO LONG. Instead of the HOLLYWOOD sign, they need to change it to EGOHILLS.

Wow, Frank. Yeah, good rant. Great points.

But our society isn't really concerned all that much with anything that actually matters, right?
