I have several of these things that I think came in a box on sound cards. Anyone have any idea what is? There are no holes in the plastic cover of the device. It came with a Velcro patch in the bag.

Probably an IR receiver. Didn't it also come with a small remote control? Some of those sound cards allowed you to install custom software to control some functions like volume via IR remote.

Thanks -- you are probably correct. None of the cards I got had a remote. They were in a box of donated parts.
