This morning while making breakfast, I took my eyes off my 18-month old son for what I thought was just an instant. By the time I looked back at him, he was sitting next to the cat's food bowl, helping himself to a serving of Hill's Science Diet vitamin enriched cat food pellets. He had probably eaten at least one or two by the time I got to him, and had others in his mouth.

Needless to say, we were somewhat alarmed at this, and immediately consulted Dr. Google for advice as to whether we should take him straight to urgent care, and/or if there was anything to worry about. When I entered "toddler eats cat," the autocomplete feature immediately suggested "toddler eats cat poo," "toddler eats cat hairball," and "toddler eats cat litter" above "toddler eats cat food" in the list!

Are there really more cases of toddlers eating cat poo, hairballs and litter than cat food???!!! If so, our little one was being positively health-conscious. Thankfully, all the advice from reputable-looking sites we found opined that, the choking hazard apart, unless he showed signs of an upset stomach within a few hours, it was nothing to worry about. He was fine for the rest of the day, so it looks like we got away with that one. But cat poo? [puke]
