  • Ancient slide projector - looking for a cover

We have this very, very old slide projector that we use mainly to put up the words "Starts Friday" on the screen. There are no identifying marks on it of any kind, so I don't know manufacturer or vintage or anything.

I would love to find a back cover for it -- it's been missing for years. I know it's a long shot, but if anyone out there in Film-Tech-land has ever run across such a thing, I'd love to hear about it. The cover spans over an area about 5-1/4" in diameter and 5-1/2" deep. It fits over the round area at the back. I'm sure the manufacturer name is on the damn cover!

If anyone has any ideas about how old this thing is or any info like that, I'd love to hear that too. We have a few of the old glass slides for it (Concession closing in 5 minutes and such) around here someplace too. The "Starts Friday" is one I made myself by sandwiching a laser-printed transparency between two thin pieces of glass.

I was told by the guy who taught me how to run the booth at the Warner that they used to have a Western Union office at the front of the lobby, outside the ticket booth. If an important message came through they could display it on the masking, below the screen. There was a special typewriter that had rubber letters on the type bars. A glass slide would be coated with a mixture of shellac and lampblack then left to dry until just tacky. When the typewriter was used to create a message on the glass, the it would leave clear impressions in the shellac.

The glass slide with the message on it would be sent up to the booth where the operator would put it into the Brenograph... "Dr. Smith, please phone your answering service for an important message."

Convert the lamp house on that thing to laser while you're at it!!

Hey Mike, have a look at these links. These glass slide projectors look very similar to your's. The one featured on the pintrest page is apparently in the Old Rock Church in Cedar City, UT.

Oh, Golde! They also made film rewinders. Am pretty sure Golde was started by Charlie Wolks dad. He told me the whole story once. They were all over Chicago, and IMHO better than Goldberg rewinds. Charlie made replacement projector parts until Digital arrived.

Mike, it is a Gold E Air-flow Stereopticon standard 3x4 projector. 1950s vintage. I have the fan motor cover, what color paint? is it brown or black? shoot me a pm with your address again, I will send one after I can get out to the warehouse.

Boy, you can't imagine how many of these I left behind when dismanling booths through the years! But, I kept a few for parts and my collection! Had these or earlier Best stereopticons in the booths when I started decades ago!
