Just watched this new 'Army Of The Dead' movie at home on Netflik. Must have looked nice on the big screen at a movie theatre showing. Shot in flat not scope with so many special effect backgrounds with a fun surround sound split mix Way too long at 2 Hr 28 Mn, this was not a Zombie Roadshow movie. Must have looked fantastic In Imax® If any theatres are showing It in that format.
We have read that the Las Vegas casinos did not allow any filming to be shot in the LV casinos or hotels so they filmed part in a about to be torn down Atlantic City casino and sets.
The best part was the first 5 minutes with a fun edited mix of some Las Vegas past stars like Elvis & Liberace now zombies. So many fake green screen Las Vegas background buildings over used and given phony hotel names. They showed the Tropicana Blvd sign way too many times. The film did have some fun type zombie parts but the acting was not the best
.
They had a big shoot out in a hotel casino with zombies but not one slot machine got hit with bullets. The movie cried out for some horror/zombie comedy segments like a old lady nuked zombie still playing the slots with the machine being hit with gunfire and the bells & whistles payout coins coming out the bottom or a trashed zombie casino cocktail girl offering the main actors looking for the hidden hotel safe vault money a Bloody Mary drink along with a old zombie guy yelling Bingo over and over in the bingo room. Would have been nice If they had brought back the zombie Vegas entertainers that they used at the top of the film and had a quick segment in a wrecked casino showroom lounge and brought in Wayne Newton, Dean Martin, Jerry Lewis, some showgirl strippers along with a few others as zombies.
Looks like there may be a sequel coming up by the the way the movie ended. I will try to see It again when most of our local SF Bay Area movie theatres re open next week May 28.
