I saw the Extended Edition of The Lord of the Rings: The Fellowship of the Ring at the Capitol Cinema 16 + ARQ theater in Cheyenne last night.
The Lord of the Rings films are playing on Sundays and Wednesdays through Flashback Cinemas. The "WyoMovies" chain was originally planning to show the films only on smaller screens, but after I emailed them and requested that they show them on their premium screens, they moved the Wednesday showings to the ARQ auditorium. (The Sunday showing, in a small auditorium, was essentially sold out.)
The ARQ auditorium is modeled after the (demolished) Cooper Cinerama theater in Denver. Over 70 tickets were sold, and judging from the seating charts, they may have sold as many tickets to that one showing of FotR as they did to all of the other films showing that day.
The movie was thrilling and the presentation was excellent. Ninety miles is a long way to drive to see a movie, but as Gandalf says to Frodo, "All we have to decide is what to do with the showtimes that are given us.”
