We liked it! Life in a movie theater in 1980. Several scenes in the booth with carbon arc light and changeover projectors. We spend more waking hours with our coworkers than pretty much anyone else. This is about a small group of coworkers. The movie concentrates on the depression issues of the shift manager and the racial bias issues faced by the new hire, and the relationship between the two (the shift manager and the new hire). I think there's an interesting story behind everything, and this is the interesting story within the Empire movie theater.

That was a real operating cinema at the time depicted. Nails a lot of the details correctly, speaking as one who came up in Berkeley cinemas in the early '60's.
One look at the brilliant Olivia Coleman in a candy counter uniform and you can almost smell the butter flavor and her troubled back story.
For another perspective, watch "Big Time Operators" aka "Smallest Show on Earth" shot in the early '60's for an almost perfect satirical look at movie staff life at the time. Peter Sellers as the cranky, alcoholic, projectionist, Margret Rutherford as the assistant manager. He says to her, "my projectors are more important than your rats".
