  • Barbie (2023)

The movie that saved movie theatres this summer 2023 'Barbie' was a fun trip to watch. We enjoyed seeing It on the large wide semi curved screen at the Cinelux 41st Ave Theatre Capitola CA in the largest screen in the Santa Cruz area theatre #1.. The image was bright and very colorful with a nice stereo surround mix. Margot Robbie played the doll just perfect and we liked Ryan Gosling as Ken.

So nice to see this cinema full with the lobby all decked out with pink streamers.. Just like the old days with eager popcorn & drink moviegoers lined up at the candy/food counter.

The director Greta Gerwig did a fine job and will be up for awards along with the cast members. Warner Bros needs to think about a sequel $ for next year.

Here are my thoughts for Barbie Film-Tech Cinema Systems

Barbie has to go back to Barbieland for a Ken problem. Then she gets sent back to the real world again ends up walking on Hollywood Blvd and meets Angelyne with her pink corvette parked in front of the Pacific Warner Cinerama then gets a job selling Barbie dolls at the Hollywood Toy Store with Pee Wee Herman as manager (bring Pee Wee out of retirement) Another idea with Margot Robbie as Barbie again bring her to the Chinese Theatre Hollywood to look for her special footprints. Put her on a LA bus shopping in Beverly Hills.

Too bad in the current 'Barbie' blockbuster the day Warner Bros shot live in Venice Beach It was a foggy day so no nice blue sky. You would think in this day of all the special effects rather then bring all the crew and extras back on a sunny beach day they had a way to add blue to the sky on the final print.

So stock your refreshment counters so you don't run out of things and add some shows for Barbie the next few weeks.. I wrote Greta and Warner Bros about some of my other ideas for a future Barbie movie. Hope they film the second movie if they do a sequel in scope not 1.85 flat. The Cinelux 41st Cinema in Capitola near Santa Cruz has no moving masking but It has a huge wide screen in Theatre Film-Tech Forums & Film-Tech Cinema Systems when they do show a scope movie..

Thanks to Paul the owner for getting pink out in the lobby of all his Cinelux Theatres in the SF Bay Area.

I have not seen it yet, but plan to based on Greta. She's done some great stuff!

Based on the trailer, I expected a comedy with Will Ferrell chasing Barbie around trying to put her back in the box.

You know, light entertainment, lots of laughs, all kinds of fun and silly stuff.

      Nope.

      Politics from start to finish.

The music and the dance numbers are really good, though.

If Warner Bros is smart when they do the sequel for Summer 2024 they need to do a (PG) Barbie Film-Tech Cinema Systems and a ( R) version. Let them battle it out for the box office business..

Have Greta Gerwig direct the (PG) version then bring on Quentin Tarantino for the (R) adult Barbie In Hollywood film.in 70mm. Keep the same main cast but bring in different movie stars for bit rolls.

A big mistake for Disney releasing 'Haunted Mansion ' now with Barbie & Oppenheimer taking all the cash and big screens. Needed a October release date. .

          PERIOD

They seemingly never learn. Just because Pirates of the Caribbean was such an initial success, it doesn't mean that this works well with other franchises. Their last attempt at making a movie about this franchise was an unmitigated failure.

Our booker suggested that we pass entirely on Mansion. Given how Barbie and Sound of Freedom are doing at our theater, it was the right call.

Barbie is doing quite well here. Over the weekend it shot to our number 2 of the year behind Mario. And the movies it jumped over took more than two weeks to get there.

Don't forget "Tomorrowland" or whatever it was called. Now that they own the Fox IP they can remake Speed and have it take place on the monorail!

Tomorrowland had pretty stunning visuals (and nixie tubes!), but the story was dreadful. It also bombed at the box office, even the Nespresso Batman couldn't save it...

But, please, don't tell them about Speed and the monorail... they might just realize they actually OWN the rights to Speed after spending 71.3 BILLION dollars on it (amongst other things) and the Speed franchise just has a sequel waiting to be made...

BTW... That 20th Century Fox acquisition might pan out as the second-most-stupid transaction of the century, just after that other crazy rocketman bought his favorite bird website for 44 BILLION dollars... But heck, what do I know, I'm not trained to see the *special* value in such deals I guess.

Oh how the mighty have fallen. There was a summer not long ago where we had a four-movie Disney track that took up the majority of the summer and we killed with it. Then thinking of all the past glories. Frozen, Lion King, Toy Story, the live action remakes (which some hate, but they kicked ass, especially Jungle Book), Finding Nemo and the rest when Pixar was doing no wrong. Marvel. Star Wars -- which many hated, but they kicked ass too. Talk about only scratching the surface.

This year we haven't played ANY of the Disney offerings except Little Mermaid, and that one was weak at best -- it opened nicely but it had "no legs" (see what I did there?)

I don't know how Disney fixes all their problems. Even Iger seems to be kind of flailing right now. The upcoming "Wish" seems to be a real pander to the classic animation audience. We'll see how that goes. With all the actors on strike it may have the whole holiday season to itself, unless they move it too.
